JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:   PRESCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION SPECIALIZED SUPPORT PARAPROFESSIONAL

JOB GOAL: The Special Education Specialized Support PARAPROFESSIONAL (SSP)  will support special education preschool teachers by working with students in an integrated preschool classroom and/or a substaintially separate preschool classroom to enable students to access the curriculum. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
• Certified Registered Behavior Technician preferred 
• Experience working with children
• Ability to coordinate with and work as a member of a team that includes Principal, Preschool Teacher, other building staff, related service personnel, clinicians and parents
• Current Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Certification or Equivalent, preferred
• Must have experience with and demonstrated ability to support students with social-emotional and behavioral challenges
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 1.0 Full Time Equivalent 
• Implements behavior management plan as written
• Assists with crisis management plans, including physical management per behavior management protocols when required
• Establishes emotionally supportive rapport with student
• Travels between classrooms if needed
• Accurately implements content, instructional and performance modifications as designed by the preschool teacher, BCBA, or other related service provider
• Willing to change diapers
• Willing and able to play with students at their level
• Participates in classroom planning meetings or other organizational meetings, as well as professional development as determined by Early Childhood Coordinator and or special education department
• Greets student upon arrival to school, assists with student dismissal and debriefs with teacher                                                                                                              TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  183 Days. Hours according to paraprofessional contract. 

REPORTS TO:  Special Education Early Childhood Coordinator 

SALARY/BENEFITS: According to paraprofessional contract.   Eligible for benefits including health insurance, dental insurance and life insurance and Town of Arlington Retirement System.
