Position: Specialized Support Paraprofessional: Job/Ed Coach Supporting Students in MAICEI Program at Middlesex Community College, other partner Community Colleges and jobs. 

 

Job Goal: This position is designed to support students who are receiving mostly college based transition services.  The Ed Coach will support the students on the Middlesex Community College (MCC) campus (or other partner community colleges) as they attend classes and complete course requirements.  The Ed Coach may also support the students at Arlington High School with completing vocational related activities.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma with a minimum of 2 years college experience (preferably in a related field)
  • Related field experience working with students with disabilities 
  • Sensitivity to student needs, concerns, and individual issues, as well as flexibility, patience and high professional integrity 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations of students 
  • Energetic, self-starter who can complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Technological competency on a variety of platforms (Blackboard, Google Suite, social media, etc.)

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support the inclusion of students with developmental disabilities in college classes at MCC or other partner community colleges;
  • Attend virtual and/or in-person classes with students;
  • Serve as academic tutor when needed;
  • Assist students in accessing college services and resources;
  • Encourage appropriate college behavior;
  • Foster student independence; including help with social skills and functional life skills;
  • Help students with time management and executive functioning skills;
  • Work as a member of a team, with the ability to communicate with faculty and staff 
  • Send weekly email updates to supervisors regarding student progress;
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding educational information and records;
  • Attend regular educational coach meetings;
  • Support students with jobs related to vocational and career training (mock interviews, job shadowing, support on volunteer or job sites).
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

REPORTS TO: High School Transition Coordinator and Special Education Coordinator

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 183 Days, 6.75 hours per day. Specific start and end time may vary depending on when students’ college classes are scheduled. Vacation periods will differ from typical high school vacation schedule in order to follow community college schedule (this means no February or April breaks but Spring Break in March and longer Winter Break).

 

SALARY/BENEFITS: In accordance with Arlington Education Association, Unit D contract, Specialized Support Paraprofessional Salary Grid. Eligible for benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, and life insurance.
