                     JOB DESCRIPTION

 

                 POSITION: SCHOOL BUS OPERATOR

 

QUALIFICATIONS:               1.  High School diploma or equivalent.

  1. Ability to communicate effectively and work as a team member.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate in English (verbal and written) with district employees, parents, students and the general public.
  3. Must pass a yearly CORI check and have a clean driving record. Must be fingerprinted before hire.
  4. School bus driver applicants must possess a valid Massachusetts

C.D.L. Class B driver’s license with air brake, passenger and school bus endorsements and a current School Bus Operator license as provided by the guidelines established by the Massachusetts RMV (renewable annually).

 

    REPORTS TO:                          Arlington Public Schools Transportation Director

 

                                                                         

  PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Operation of a school bus or school van for the purpose of transporting students/staff to and from schools, athletic events, camps, field trips, or other special activities or events.
  2. Transports special needs or handicapped students to and from school and special classes as well as recreation areas or other locations.
  3. Delivery of interschool mail, parcels and supplies along with Food Service deliveries to all schools.
  4. School bus drivers are responsible for daily vehicle inspections and for minor repairs to their vehicle. They are also responsible for keeping their vehicles clean and providing proper maintenance to all vehicles.
  5. School bus drivers must maintain all applicable licenses and are subject to random alcohol and drug screenings as provided by employer guidelines.
  6. Any additional duties as required by the APS Transportation Director including after school charters or athletic events.
  7. Able to lift 50 lbs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit in the driver’s seat of a bus for long stretches of time.  Must be able to focus on conditions on the road while driving. The employee is also required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  12 Month - 40 hrs per week (Expected to work overtime).  Terms of employment are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Arlington School Committee and Local 680, School Bus Operators.

                                                                                     

SALARY:                                  $25.74-$27.81 per hour
